QR Code Types

All types below are dynamic by default — you can change the destination any time without reprinting the QR code. See FAQ for static vs. dynamic explained.

URL / Website

Most Popular

Redirects to any webpage. Use for menus, product pages, social profiles, or any link you want to track. Change the destination any time from your dashboard.

WiFi

Lets visitors connect to your WiFi by scanning — no password typing. Great for cafes, hotels, and offices. Shows a branded connection page with scan tracking.

vCard / Contact

Encodes your contact info. When scanned, opens a page where visitors can save your details directly to their phone. Perfect for business cards and events.

Digital Menu

Links to a full digital menu you build inside QR Code 42. Add categories, items, prices, and photos. Update items without reprinting — best for restaurants and food trucks.

App Store Links

Creator+

Detects whether the scanner is on iOS or Android and sends them to the correct app store listing automatically. Eliminate the need for two separate QR codes.

Static QR codes are also available for WiFi (offline auto-connect). Static codes encode data directly — they work without internet but cannot be edited or tracked. Use dynamic codes whenever tracking matters.

Analytics & Tracking

Every scan is logged automatically. No setup, no extra code. Click any QR code in your dashboard to open its analytics.

Scan Timeline

See total scans over time — by day, week, or month. Spot when a campaign launched, went viral, or dropped off.

Geographic Breakdown (Creator+)

City, region, and country for every scan. Understand where your audience actually is — helpful for local businesses and print campaigns.

Device & Browser

iOS vs. Android, Chrome vs. Safari. Helps you optimize landing pages for the devices your customers actually use.

Anomaly Detection

Automatically flags unusual scan spikes — helpful for catching bot traffic or verifying a campaign actually reached real people.

Export: Download all scan data as CSV from the analytics view of any QR code. Geo-tracking is available on Creator plan and above.

Teams

Team plans let multiple people manage the same QR codes and analytics under one organization. Available on Team ($12/mo) and Business ($24.50/mo) plans.

  1. 1

Go to Team in the sidebar.

  2. 2

Click Invite Member and enter their email address.

  3. 3

They receive an email with a link to join your organization. Once accepted, they can view and manage all QR codes.

  4. 4

To remove a member, click the ⋯ menu next to their name and select Remove.

Team plan: up to 3 members. Business plan: up to 10 members. All members share the same pool of QR codes and see the same analytics.

Custom Domains

Instead of scan links showing qrcode42.com/r/…, use your own domain — e.g. go.yourbrand.com/r/…. Available on Creator plan and above.

  1. 1

Go to Custom Domains and click Add Domain.

  2. 2

    Enter your subdomain (e.g. go.yourbrand.com).

  3. 3

In your DNS provider (Cloudflare, GoDaddy, Namecheap, etc.), add a CNAME record pointing your subdomain to qrcode42.com.

  4. 4

Click Verify DNS in the dashboard. Propagation usually takes 1–15 minutes.

  5. 5

Once verified, your domain appears as active. New scan links will use your domain automatically.

SSL is automatic. We provision a certificate for your domain once DNS is verified — no extra steps on your end.

Landing Pages

Landing pages are mini web pages you build inside QR Code 42 — no website required. Point a QR code at a landing page instead of an external URL to keep everything under one roof.

What you can add: headline, description, logo, buttons (links, phone, email, maps), product images, social links, and embedded videos.

To create one: go to Landing PagesNew Page → build with the editor → publish. Then attach it to any QR code.

Plan limits: Free = 1 page, Creator = 5 pages, Team = 25 pages, Business = 100 pages.

API Access Business Plan

The QR Code 42 API lets you create, update, and retrieve QR codes and analytics programmatically — useful for developers integrating QR codes into their own apps.

GET /api/v1/qr-codes — list all your QR codes
POST /api/v1/qr-codes — create a new QR code
PATCH /api/v1/qr-codes/{id} — update destination URL
GET /api/v1/qr-codes/{id}/analytics — scan data for a code

Generate an API key under Account → API Keys. Include it as a Bearer token in the Authorization header.

Frequently Asked Questions

A dynamic QR code routes through our servers, so you can change where it goes at any time without reprinting. It also logs every scan with location and device data. A static QR code encodes the destination directly into the pattern — it works offline and never expires, but you can't edit it and it doesn't track scans. For most business use cases, dynamic is the right choice. Static is available for WiFi offline auto-connect.
Yes — that's the main advantage of dynamic QR codes. Open the QR code in your dashboard, click Edit, update the destination URL, and save. The physical printed code doesn't change; it still routes to the same short link, which now redirects to your new destination. No reprinting needed.
Your existing QR codes will continue to redirect and track scans even if you downgrade. You just won't be able to create new codes beyond the free plan's limit (5). Analytics history is preserved, though geo-location data in analytics requires Creator plan or above to view.
No. All plans — including the free plan — include unlimited scans. You will never be charged per scan or throttled because a campaign goes viral.
Open any QR code in your dashboard and click Download. You get a high-resolution PNG suitable for print at any size. For professional printing (signage, billboards) we recommend scaling to at least 1 inch × 1 inch at 300 DPI. The downloaded file is 1000×1000px by default.
Go to Team in the sidebar, click Invite Member, and enter their email. They'll receive an invite link. Team invitations expire after 7 days. Team features require the Team ($12/mo) or Business ($24.50/mo) plan.
Free: 5 QR codes, unlimited scans, basic analytics.
Creator — $4.50/mo ($45/yr): 25 QR codes, geo-tracking, 1 custom domain, no watermark.
Team — $12/mo ($120/yr): 100 QR codes, 3 team members, 3 custom domains, A/B testing.
Business — $24.50/mo ($245/yr): 500 QR codes, 10 team members, 10 custom domains, API access.
Yes. Cancel from Account → Billing at any time. If you're on a monthly plan you won't be charged again. If you're on a yearly plan, you retain access until the end of your billing year.
Go to Custom Domains, click Add Domain, enter your subdomain (e.g. go.yourbrand.com), then add a CNAME record in your DNS pointing that subdomain to qrcode42.com. DNS verification usually takes 1–15 minutes. Available on Creator plan and above.
A Landing Page is a mini webpage hosted inside QR Code 42. Use one when you don't have an external website to link to, or when you want a clean branded page for a specific campaign (product launch, event info, contact card). You build it with a drag-and-drop style editor and can update it any time.
An inactive QR code won't redirect — scanners will see an error. This usually happens if you manually deactivated it from the dashboard. Open the QR code, click Edit, and toggle it back to Active.
First, wait up to 30 minutes for full DNS propagation. If it's still not working: (1) confirm the CNAME points exactly to qrcode42.com (not www.qrcode42.com), (2) check that you're not proxying through Cloudflare's orange cloud — set it to DNS-only (grey cloud) for the CNAME record, (3) contact support if issues persist.
